Chapter on English football law for major new textbook completed

I was honoured to co-author the England chapter for a major new book on football law. The book is titled Contractual Stability and Termination in Football: Legal and Economic Implications Across Key Jurisdictions and will be published by the Sports Law & Policy Centre later this year.

Dev Parmar of Parmars Sports and I co-wrote the chapter. Together, we looked at how player contracts work under English law. Key topics include:

  • When a contract can be ended with or without just cause
  • The rules for compensation and penalty clauses
  • How FIFA’s RSTP reforms affect clubs and players in England

The book brings together expert views from more than 20 countries including Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Japan, Uruguay, and Germany. There are also insights into coach contracts and international disputes. The Editor is Michele Colucci, a member of the FIFA Football Tribunal, with support from publishing editor Antonella Marzulli.

I’m grateful to Michele and Dev for the chance to be part of this global project. It’s been a real pleasure to contribute to what will become an important legal reference for anyone working in football.
